How much water is in the aquifer beneath Kansas?
The question directly affects the state's farmers, ranchers, business people, and families, and the Kansas Geological Survey at the University of Kansas is trying to answer it.
This year, researchers are surveying more than 500 wells to determine the amount of water remaining in the High Plains Aquifer. This information can then be used by landowners, communities, and businesses to guide their decisions on drilling, irrigation, and other usages.
