Graduates of KU's School of Pharmacy work in 95 of 105 Kansas counties, but the state still faces a growing shortage. Six Kansas counties are without a pharmacy, and 30 have only one.
KU strives to change that by placing sixth-year pharmacy students in clerkships in about 150 Kansas sites. Also, a new community program will place 105 students in 97 locations the summer after their first year.
Local pharmacists will mentor these students as they log real-world experience for a possible career in a Kansas pharmacy.
