EVERYDAY HISTORY

Arkansas City history

Grace R. Clark's historical record, comprising photographs, correspondence, address books, and personal items, is in the Kansas Collection at KU's Spencer Research Library (background above).

Grace R. Clark made history.

The late Arkansas City piano teacher's papers and photographs -- like those of hundreds of state residents -- are in the Kansas Collection at the Spencer Research Library.

Last year about 1,500 researchers used the collection to learn more about both official matters and the quieter experiences of Kansans.

"We are especially interested in people's everyday lives," says Sheryl Williams, interim director of the library. She advises people to retain old documents and photographs because, she notes, "they might be history."
